Stemzo beside Tally

Tally stays your books. Here is what Stemzo reads from it, what it adds around it, and how an approved expense can be added.

Coming soon The Tally connection described on this page is being switched on company by company; the screens in the tour show how it looks.

Most distributors already have Tally and trust it with their books. We run Tally ourselves. Stemzo was built next to it. This page explains how the two fit, what Stemzo reads, what it adds around it, and the questions worth asking any vendor, including us.

Tally stays your books

  • Tally describes several ways to connect other systems to it. Its own help pages mention integration using APIs, HTTP or DLLs, JSON and XML formats, and ODBC for reporting in tools such as Excel and Power BI.
  • In practice that connection is local to a Tally installation running on a machine in your office. That is why Stemzo uses a small agent on that machine which calls out to Stemzo. The lessons are in our own note on what can be automated.

Your accounts, ledgers and vouchers. Tally is the master.

Work in the field
Stays in Tally

These are day-to-day operations, so they live in Stemzo.

Done in Stemzo

Captures them on the phone, where they happen, and keeps them in one queue.

An approved expense
Stays in Tally

Receives it as an Optional voucher, if you switch this on.

Done in Stemzo

A Founder or GM approves the push first. It is checked without writing, and never created twice.

Stemzo reads from Tally freely and adds to it when something has physically happened and been approved. That is the rule from our note: read freely, write back events that carry no judgement, and prepare everything else for a person to confirm.

Three questions to ask any vendor next to Tally

  • When a voucher is edited in Tally, what do you match on? The answer should be Tally's internal ID, not the voucher number.
  • What happens at financial year end if the company is renamed or split?
  • What happens when the Tally machine is switched off for two days? A good answer involves a queue and a visible sync status.

We would rather you asked every vendor these, including us. Ask us in a demo, and we will show you the answers on the real app.

Questions people ask

Does Stemzo replace Tally?

Stemzo works beside Tally. Tally stays your books. Stemzo shows its numbers as charts and takes care of the work around Tally: delivery proof, attendance, approvals and expenses.

Can Stemzo add entries to Tally?

Yes, when you switch it on. An approved expense can be added to Tally as an Optional voucher after a Founder or GM approves that push. It is checked first without writing, it carries a permanent unique ID so a retry never creates it twice, and a locked or closed period stops it with a clear message. Journal entries and closed books stay exactly as they are.

How does the Tally connection work?

A small agent on the Tally PC calls out to Stemzo. You install it, read out a short pairing code, and choose which Tally company to share. Nothing needs to be opened on your network.

How will I know the Tally connection is working?

Stemzo says in plain English whether Tally is reachable and when it last answered, so you always see where things stand. (Tally answers when it is open with a company loaded.)

Which Tally do you work with?

Stemzo works with TallyPrime.

When can I use the Tally connection?

It is coming soon and will be switched on company by company. Ask us in the demo when it will be on for your set-up.

See it on the real app, or ask us anything.
